Abstract：Since Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory has been put forward, it provides translators an effective translating method, and it has great effect on their works. Many translators and scholars have conducted researches on it, or put it into the practice of translating works, in particular the cultural translation. Memories of Peking: South Side Stories (Cheng Nan Jiu Shi) is a representative work of Lin Hai-yin, and it is also a collection of autobiographical short stories based on her own life experiences. So far, there is only one English version of the book which was translated by Qi Bang-yuan and Yin Zhang Lan-xi. However, studies on the English version are in short. Therefore, this thesis aims to study the English translation of culture-loaded words in the book from the perspective of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory.

At first, a brief introduction of the book and its English version, Functional Equivalence Theory and culture-loaded words is given in the thesis; and then under the Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, this thesis tries to study the English translating methods of the three categories of culture-loaded words (which are materials, language, and religion) in the book through illustrating examples, and then analyze the merits and demerits of the translation work of Qi and Yin. As last, the thesis reached the conclusion that they take literal translation, paraphrasing, and transliteration as main strategies, and annotation as complement, and use omission accordingly to translate the three types of culture-loaded words.

从奈达的功能对等理论看《城南旧事》中文化负载词的翻译

摘要：奈达的功能对等理论自提出以来，为翻译工作者提供了新的翻译方式，并对他们的工作带来很大影响。很多译者对这一理论进行了研究，或将其运用到翻译工作中，尤其是文化翻译。《城南旧事》是林海音的代表作，也是她以自身经历撰写的一部自传体小说。迄今为止，这本小说只有一个英译版本，是由齐邦媛和殷张兰熙一起合作翻译的。但是针对这个英译本的研究并不多见，因此，这篇论文旨在从奈达的功能对等理论角度来研究《城南旧事》中文化负载词的翻译。

本文首先简单介绍了《城南旧事》及其英译版，功能对等理论和文化负载词，再借由奈达的功能对等理论，通过举例分析来研究齐邦媛和殷张兰熙在翻译城南旧事中的物质、语言和宗教这三类主要文化负载词时所采用的翻译策略及其优缺点。最后，本文得出结论，即二者主要采取直译，意译及音译的方法，并以注释作为补充，在个别情况下使用省略法，来翻译文中这三类文化负载词。
