A Brief Analysis on the Influence of Field Independence and Field Dependence on English Reading
摘 要:认知风格作为造成个体学习者差异的因素之一,对学生的学习成绩会产生重要的影响。本研究采用文献分析的方法进行研究,旨在探讨英语阅读与认知风格的关系,阐述不同认知风格个体的学习特点以及在阅读策略、阅读偏好、阅读材料及抑制干扰等方面的差异。得出两种认知风格个体在阅读过程中有不同作用及场独立者在阅读过程中表现更好的结论。依据结论针对不同的认知风格的学习者提出了相应的学习策略及教学建议,对有效改善阅读问题具有重要意义。

Abstract:As one of the factors causing inpidual learners’ differences, cognitive styles have great impact on study achievement. This paper uses the method of literature review to illuminate the influence of field independence and field dependence on English reading. It describes the learning characteristics of different cognitive styles inpiduals as well as differences in reading strategies, English reading preferences, reading material and ability of suppress interference. The study draws the conclusion that the two cognitive styles are different on many aspects and field independent students are better than field dependent students in the process of reading. Finally, it proposes learning strategies and teaching suggestions according to different cognitive styles of the learners depending on its effect on English reading. The results have important significance to improve the quality of reading.

I. Introduction
Nowadays, our society is in the age of information. People are relying on a good reading ability to obtain a lot of useful information. Thus reading ability is very necessary for modern people. Reading plays a very important role for inpidual to obtain knowledge and being socialization. Reading is an important way of language input and becomes one of the most important skills requires students to master. In addition, the goal of basic education is to cultivate comprehensive ability of student, which the core is the cultivation of reading ability. Reading comprehension is not only becomes content of most examinations but also occupies the biggest part in the score. The development of students’ reading ability has become the focus of English teaching in senior high school
In 1990s, research on cognitive style in educational field got attention again, especially in language learning. The role of personal factors in the process of learning foreign languages has become the focus of study. Cognitive factors are the direct factors that can determine learning result and learning efficiency of students. Different inpiduals have different cognitive styles. To some degree, the differences of cognitive style can attributed to the effect of environment and experience. Our intrinsic physiological basis has restraining functions. Some linguists through the way of aptitude test and cognitive style test to explore the performance and ability level of students in different subject fields. The way of thinking can measure by this way too. Different inpidual natural has different way of thinking. According to a survey research, teachers and students are both lack of understanding of reading. Necessary research about reading process is needed. Therefore, in order to understand the reading characteristics of students with different cognitive styles, this study try to explore reading process from the perspective of cognitive style. It will give some advice based on the conclusions to help students reading with strategies and methods suit their own learning cognitive style.
