摘 要:随着国际间交流,英语的运用越来越重要。写作是英语学习者必备的四大能力之一,体现了中学生应该具备的综合运用语言的能力。但在目前的英语教学中,写作一直是中学生的薄弱环节。通过调查和研究发现,中学阶段的英语教学往往注重语法的学习而忽视了能力的培养,学生缺乏有效的写作指导和训练,导致许多学生对写作产生了畏惧心理,因此提高中学生的写作能力势在必行。本研究通过分析中学英语教学以及学生写作方面容易出现的问题,提出了切实可行的建议,从而提高和培养中学生的写作能力。

Abstract :With more and more international communication, English becomes increasingly important. Writing is one of the four basic skills for the English learners, which can reflect the middle school students’ ability to apply comprehensive language. But in present English teaching, writing has always been a weak link for middle school students. Through the investigation and research, the English teaching in middle school tends to pay attention to the students’ grammar learning but neglect the cultivation of their ability. The students lack effective writing instruction and training, which leads to the students’ fear for writing. Therefore, it is urgent to improve the middle school students’ writing ability. By analyzing the problems in middle school English teaching and students’ writing, this study puts forward some feasible suggestions on the cultivation of the students’ writing ability so that their writing ability can be improved.

On the Cultivation and Improvement of English Writing Ability in Middle School

I. Introduction

   As a college senior, the author feel great honored to have the opportunity to go into a local middle school to take part in educational practice. Through communication with the experienced teachers, the students’ feedback and the author’s usual observation, the author finds that middle school students have some deficiency in writing, so this research is chosen. This paper is mainly arranged from the following several aspects.   Firstly, this paper introduces the current situation of middle school students’ English writing ability, then analyzes the necessity and feasibility of cultivating and improving middle school students’ writing ability, and then tries to find out the problems existing in middle school students’ writing from different viewpoint. Finally, this paper puts forward suggestions on how to cultivate and improve the students’ writing ability.

English teachers and linguists both at home and abroad have been studying this topic, but they focus on writing skills and how to write English articles. Many teaching approaches began to be introduced into China, such as the Task-Based Approach, which was put forward in the 1980s. In addition, the communicative approach begun to appear and been developed after communication theory was proposed and so on. All these approaches have great influence on the teaching results.

In China, Full Time Junior Middle School English Teaching Syllabus of Nine-year Compulsory Education points clearly that the purpose of middle school English teaching is to make students acquire basic knowledge of English and the ability to use English for communication by listening, speaking, reading and writing. But now the middle school English teaching often neglects the cultivation of students’ writing ability. English is an important subject in middle school but many students’ English is very poor, the reason is that they do not lay a solid foundation from the very start. Most middle school students find it difficult to write in English. When they take examinations, they do not know how to write or write little or even simply copy the reading material on the examination paper. This phenomenon is due to the lack of writing training. A considerable part of the students can not express their ideas in English. Students’ English foundation is weak. Besides, the teacher should take some responsibility for this phenomenon. When the teachers assign writing tasks to the students, which are boring and simple, they emphasize grammatical correction without putting them in a real situation and communication, which makes the student’s composition separate from the real life. Teachers’ comments tend to focus on the grammatical error correction, instead of paying attention to the training of students thinking or the ways to solve practical problems. It is not surprising that the students lack communicative motivation. Teachers think that as long as the students understand the text, master grammar, the students will naturally be able to write, which is very unscientific. Writing ability can not be improved immediately, so it demands the students to use daily accumulation and learn the writing skills, together with the correct guidance of the teachers. This paper put forward the suggestions on how to cultivate and improve middle school students’ English writing ability, based on the current situation of English writing ability.
