Influences of Cultural Differences Between China and Western on Middle School English Teaching
I. Introduction
In recent years, with the China entering the WTO, more and more Chinese pay attention to English. English has built a bridge to communicate with people. With the deposition of history and the development of society, China and the western countries have formed different cultural practices. Relationship between language and culture is inseparable. If students really want to master communication skills, they must have a knowledge of language and cultures of English. If students focus only on the use of English forms and ignore the cultural differences, It will lead to the improper use of language, even cause misunderstanding. The ultimate goal of English teaching is the development of communicative competence. More and more people have reached a consensus that communication competence should include five aspects: four skills(listening, speaking, reading and writing) and social skills (The people who come from different cultural background can appropriately communicate with others.) But in the concrete context of communication, people often ignore the environment of the language social, especially the language cultural differences, so that ambiguity and misunderstanding often occur in our daily communication. Therefore, it is not enough that an English teacher only teaches the English knowledge, they must pay more attention to cultural import, improve the student’s sensitivity and adaptability to the different cultures between China and Western, and cultivate the students’ cross-cultural communication consciousness and ability.
