An Analysis of College Students’ English Writing Proficiency and Coping Strategies
摘 要:作为大学英语教学的一项重要内容,英语写作一直是大多数学生的软肋。因此,提高学生的英语写作能力极为重要,它不仅有助于大学生在英语考试中取得好成绩,而且有助于大学生谋求良好的工作,对个人的发展机会也大有裨益。本论文用对比分析法和案例分析法分析了大学生英语写作的现状及存在的问题,从而有针对地提出相关的应对策略,以期更加有效地提高大学生的英语写作能力,进而对其阅读、听力、口语、翻译等方面的能力都有一个提升的作用。

Abstract:As an important part of college English teaching, English writing has always been the weakness of most students. Therefore, it is very essential to enhance students’ English writing ability. It can not only help college students to get high grades in English tests, but also help them to seek excellent jobs and have great opportunities for personal development. This paper adopts the methods of comparison analysis and case analysis to analyze the present situation and problems existing in college students’ English writing, and puts forward the coping strategies, which can improve students’ English writing skills effectively and promote college students’ ability on reading, listening, speaking, translating and so on.

I. Introduction
College English Writing is an important index to measure the comprehensive level and application ability of college students, and it is also a critical part for all kinds of English proficiency testing. For a long time, it is an indisputable fact that college students’ English writing ability is not good enough and writing ability is not excellent, which considered to be the most difficult part of English learning. What are the causes of college students’ poor English writing? And what are the strategies to solve the problems? Since students’ vocabulary is not very rich, grammar is relatively weak and writing techniques are not sufficient, the sentences they produce are not smooth which may lead to low marks. At the same time, writing is a difficult problem which puzzled most students for a long time. Therefore, by analyzing the current situation of college students’ writing, this study points out the problems in students’ writing and finds the appropriate solutions of these problems.
This study includes five chapters. The first part is an introduction, which mainly introduces the purpose, scope and significance of the study, and makes a simple analysis of the significance of English writing strategies in English writing and English learning. The second part analyzes the status quo and existing problems of college students’ English writing. The third part is the causes of the problems existing in college students’ English writing process. The fourth part is the strategies to improve college students’ English writing ability. The fifth part is a conclusion, which summarizes the results of the analysis and related suggestions. Therefore, the research of current situation of college students’ English writing and writing strategy has important significance. It not only help college students to get high grades in English tests, but also help them to seek excellent jobs and have great opportunities for personal development. So improving the students’ English writing proficiency is particularly important.
