Comparative Study on Cultural Connotation of Chinese Dream and American Dream——Based on the Examples of American Dream in Chinese and the Pursuit of Happiness
I .Introduction
When it comes to the word “dream”, there are generally two kinds of meaning. One is something people will make when they are sleeping. Dream also has its meaning in philosophy which is revealed thoroughly by psychologist Sigismund Schlomo Freud and Carl Jung. Freud believed that dreams provide rare insight into one’s unconscious mind, and people’s unconscious wishes and desires can have a great deal of influence over their outward behavior (Zhang 228). According to Freud, dreams are the unconscious psychic energy’s attempt to fulfill its wish. In human society, there is another meaning of dream that people usually call it ideal. Dream is a yearning and longing of human’s desire for splendid things. There is always a gap which is different to get through between dream and reality, and because of the gap, dream looks more attracting. Dream is the source of motivation which makes our world become more beautiful.
Each person can have their inpidual dream, and work hard to achieve it. States can also have their national dreams. The Chinese Dream is a term popularized after 2013 within Chinese society that describes a set of personal and national ethos and ideals in China and the Government of China(Chin pars.1). It is used by journalists, government officials, and activists to describe the role of the inpidual in Chinese society as well as the goals of the Chinese nation (“Chasing the Chinese dream” 24). Meanwhile, another word called “American dream”, which was put forward by James Truslow Adams in 1931, is usually compared with“Chinese dream”. What are the Chinese dream and American dream? What are theirs characteristics? What are the similarities and differences between them? This paper, based on the two movies of American Dream in China and the Pursuit of Happiness two, compares the differences between Chinese Dream and American Dream by analyzing the cultural connotation of them so that our dream can be better achieved.
