The Analysis of the Differences on Interpersonal Relationships Between China and the West


摘 要:由于历史,政治,经济等方面的原由,中西人际关系存在巨大差异。而现如今,世界经济全球化迅猛发展,全球交往日益密切,不同国家不同民族的交往成为带动中西经济,政治,文化发展的重要因素。本文旨在探究中西人际交往方面的差异。论文从人际关系的特征入手,然后从家庭,友情 ,工作和社会制裁方面对比分析中西方人际关系的差异,最后分析导致差异的主要原因及其所带来的影响。作者通过此研究,为促进中西人际关系更加和谐快速地发展略尽绵薄之力。

Abstract:Due to historical, political, economic and other reasons, there are huge differences between Chinese and Western relationships. And now the world’s economy is developing rapidly and global contacts are becoming increasingly close. Communication between different countries and nations is the significant factor to promote the developments of economy, politics and culture. This paper aims to study the differences of interpersonal relationships between China and the West. Firstly, it introduces the characteristics of interpersonal relationships in details. Then it discusses the differences between China and the West from the aspects of family, friendship, work and social sanctions through contrasting and analyzing. Finally, the main reasons and the influences of these differences are analyzed. Through this research, the author tries to make some efforts to promote the harmonious and rapid development of interpersonal relationship between China and the West.

I. Introduction

As the world has entered into the 21rst century, at the same time, the global economic system and information society also speed up its pace. The communication between China and the West is becoming more and more closely. China and the West have completely different cultures with outstanding characteristics and charms. Because of the differences, the world is so rich and colorful and our life is filled with pleasure. In order to know about the west and promote the communication, it is necessary to understand the differences, that is, to seek common points while reserving differences and absorb the quintessence and discard the dregs, to learn excellent cultures from different countries and make contributions to the word cultures. As China and the West have differences in many aspects, we can know about interpersonal relationship.        

So what is interpersonal relationship? Interpersonal relationship refers to the relationship between people and people. In other words, it belongs to sociology category. Sociology defines interpersonal relationships as social relationships building in the process of people’s production or life activities, while psychology defines interpersonal relationships as the direct psychological connection established in the process of human communications (Li, Lin 1). No one can live on their own in society. Everybody’s existence and development relies on all kinds of relationships by which people can develop themselves. Interpersonal relationship plays a crucial role in human society. It is an absolutely necessary constituent part. People’s needs and demands need to be realized by the communication between people and people.  Interpersonal relationships are the most common and most important relationships in human history. Interpersonal relationship is a broad concept so that different people hold different opinions on it. Men need contact. It is terrible or horrible without communication.
