滴要：翻译学对语言学重要部分的发展，文学发展与不同国家的文化发展有影响。因为翻译能够产生国际交流和广泛人们之间的边界，所以翻译学在社会中具有巨大的重要性。当代翻译学通过理论与实践角度试着解决不同翻译出现的问题。在这篇本科论文中我对翻译过程观察不同名著翻译学家的看法。

功能翻译理论是在翻译科学中最重要的理论之一。本研究中表现罗琳的“哈利波特与魔法石”翻译分析研究语义，词汇与句法特征，还有如何进行英汉翻译过程。在这篇本科论文中暴露原文的社会和文化特征，以及翻译家为了传达同样的信息用什么文学手法。在我看来，苏农把“哈利波特与魔法石”翻译超级成功因为她的文化背景介绍对原文是最一致的，并尽量化解文化的不同，因此，我决定在这部小说使用这种翻译分析。

Lexical and Semantic Analysis in Translation of Harry Potter and    Philosopher’s Stone

Abstract：Translation study has influence on important parts of linguistic development, literature and culture of different nations. In society, translation science has a great importance, because it can produce international communication and broad boundary between nations. Contemporary translation studies learn and try to solve different kinds of questions in theoretical and practical way. In this undergraduate thesis observed different opinions of famous scholars in translation science and their views about how translation process is applied.

The Skopostheory is one of the most influential theory in functionalistic translation study. In this research presented translation-oriented analysis of Harry Potter and Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling to investigate its semantic, lexical, syntactic features in both Chinese and English versions and how translation process into Chinese language is applied. In this academic paper exposing social and cultural features in target culture and which literature devices and methods translator used to transmit the same message into Chinese language. In my opinion, translation of Harry Potter by Su Nong is the most successful because she revealed cultural context and tried maximally smooth the cultural difference, in this reason, I’ve decided to apply translation-oriented analysis on this translation.

Chapter 1 Introduction

1.1The definition of translation

Functionalistic translation theories consider translation as instrument for international communication and conceive that linguistic characteristics of translated text determined by assigment of translation in this culture. So that the cultural factors influence on final product and decision-making process. Functionalistic translation theory practiced by many scholars in German, including Nida, Katharina Reiss, Christiane Nord and Hans Vermeer, who established the Scopostheory, etc.

Translation is a creative process which can be completed only by human, that’s why translation is not a natural process. Human has inpiduality and intelligence which help to find an appropriate word or sentence structure in translation. “Translation is language code switching. When translating, we switch from one language to another one”(Proshina 8). In his theory, Eugene Nida considered translation as coding process of linguistic information.
