摘 要：《恋爱中的女人》是劳伦斯在工业文明背景下对恋爱关系的探讨，揭示了男女之间思想与情感的微妙关系。社会达尔文主义作为一种世界观和意识形态在欧美思想界拥有极其广泛的影响, 激发了文学创作者聚焦于真实的人类本性，记录社会价值观从理想化和人文化到物质化和工具化的变迁，再现人类的自我追求和欲望驱使。本文运用社会达尔文主义理论，从人性，社会地位，梦想三个方面分析两组恋人的命运轨迹，着重探究恋爱过程中自然选择和适者生存的智慧。

Abstract  ：The case in Women in Love is the exploration of love relationship under the background of industrial civilization, tracing the subtle relationship between men and women in the aspects of ideals and emotions. From the late 19th century to the early 20th century, Social Darwinism, as a kind of world view and ideology in the European and American thinkers has a profound and broad effect, inspired the literary writers to focus on the realness of human nature, and recorded social values changed from the idealized and human culture to the very physical world, reveal the self-realization and the driving desire of human as well. This paper bases on the perspective of Social Darwinism to analyze love relationship from three aspects: human nature, social status and dream. It especially studies the wisdom reflected in Natural Selection and Survival of the Fittest in the love process.

Analysis of Love Relationship in Women in Love from the Perspective of Social Darwinism

I. Introduction

   David Herbert Richards Lawrence, an modern English writer, in 1921, was accused of pornographic writing when Women in Love was published. This novel was banned by authorities at that time because it was much concerned with defiantly and frankly described scenes of sex. But now, this book with a tendency of aesthetic consciousness has been regarded as a classic work of modern literature by many a visionary thinker and significant representative of modernism in English literature.

   This paper is to explore love relationship on the basis of Women in Love which was written in the years before and during World War I in a heat of great energy, and criticized for its exploration of human sexuality, revealing the mysteries between men and women both sensual and intellectual from the perspective of Social Darwinism. In this novel, Laurence illuminates that the ideal relationship is man and woman fused faultlessly after their nature of hegemony get dispelled. He believes that only the ideal love relationship can facilitate the harmonious interpersonal relationship, and then can reform society.

   It is of great significance to study the impact of Social Darwinism upon literature creation and literature criticism because it has been comprehensively applied into the explanation of human nature and social society. In the research works on Women in Love there are many scholars further their researches on feminism, especially from the perspective of eco-feminism, which is a method to explore the source of eco-crisis caused by feminism and offers a practical settlement. Cases studying on the literary creation and paying close attention to inpidual consciousness in Women in Love becomes a major research direction. Nevertheless, there still exists many academic researches on varied directions to be taken into creation. Social Darwinism has evolved into a new conception that those who survive in the world are the fittest and those who fail to adapt themselves to the social environment will be doomed to perish.
