Jane Austen wrote six books in her whole life. The most famous and popular one is Pride and Prejudice. It is once called First Impressions but not be published until in 1813. Pride and Prejudice mainly described the love story of Elizabeth and Darcy. However, Austen expressed her sharp opinion and philosophy by ordinary love affairs. Her works mainly described some realistic things about life, love, marriage and society. The British female writer Virginia Woolf in her work Mrs. Dalloway said that Austen is “The most perfect artist among women, the writer whose books are immortal, died just as she was beginning to feel confidence in her own success.”(177) Another British novelist William Somerset Maugham puts Pride and Prejudice in his own work Ten Novels and Their Authors and believes readers think it is the masterpiece of Austen. He believed that the work makes a generation of readers get pleasure, enlightenment and instructive.
