A foreign language teaching is a way of teaching a foreign language that is based on systematic principles and procedures. The teacher has not only to make students understand the language, namely the pronunciation vocabulary, grammar, and must develop students’ communicative competence. Foreign language teachers understand a language well, which does not mean that they can teach the language well. Teachers should understand foreign cultures. Teaching is an art as well as a science. If teachers do not know foreign culture, they cannot hope to achieve good results. The old saying goes: “Travel broadens the mind”. In the same way learning foreign cultures will surely broadens the mind of teachers. So teachers will teach foreign language well. Language is a unit of culture. It is an important expression of culture. Language conveys great deal of cultural infiltration. Language is also the outcome of culture. They influence each other. The development of culture must have enriched language. With the development of society and the progress of science and technology, language also becomes richer and richer. Language could pass the cultural information. English teaching is the teaching of language, so teachers cannot teach English without letting students know its culture. In order to let students learn and master English well, teachers cannot separate English teaching and cultural teaching.

Cross-cultural communication and foreign language teaching are inseparable. Teachers teach language knowledge. More importantly, they cultivate students’ communicative competence, and develop students’ ability to use foreign languages. The ability of cross-cultural communication is a basic purpose for students to learn foreign languages. Therefore, English teaching cannot be simply understood as the communication between the Han culture and English culture, and it includes the cultural phenomena between the Han culture and English culture. In the meantime students should understand cultural differences and eliminate misconduct.

2.3 Main Contents of Cultural Infiltration

Junior high school English teaching should be based on cultural teaching. Knowledge and culture teaching are supplemented in English-speaking countries. Cultural teaching is also closed linked foreign culture. It is very important to improve the students’ communicative competence. 2.3.1Addressing

Addressing is an important part in cross-cultural communication. There is the distinction between Chinese’ addressing and foreigners’ addressing. The feudal ideas have an influence on China. So China’s tradition of son preference influences Chinese culture. However, in foreign countries, everyone is equal. For example, foreigners always call their elders grandparent, grandfather, grandmother. While Chinese call their elders “祖辈,爷爷,奶奶,外公,外婆”.

2.3.2 Greeting Language

Chinese people say “hello”, and actually they do not use “hello”. When they meet each other, Chinese people always say: “你去哪儿了?你要去上班吗?你下班了吗?你吃了吗?” While Westerners often think that many personal things cannot be asked casually. So when they meet they always say: Hi / Hello! Good morning / Good afternoon / Good evening / Good night! How are you? It’s a lovely day, is not it? What a wonderful day it is!

2.3.3 Telephone Language

There are many differences between the Chinese and foreign languages. Chinese always say“你好,你好,让小磊接电话. 我是小梦.你是谁?”English is very different from Chinese. For example “Hello, could I speak to Tom, please?” “Is that Mary speaking?” Westerners receive a phone call, and they always say “Hello, 52164768, this is Jim”. Chinese students often make mistakes when they learn foreign language, and they always say “你好,你是谁啊?” Chinese students should not use the Chinese way to give people a call.
