On the Cultivation of Students’ Emotional Attitudes in Middle School English Teaching
摘 要:在英语教学中广泛开展情感态度教育,有利于在学生探求知识、提高技能的同时,形成健康积极的情感态度。本文采用文献研究的方法,首先从介绍情感态度与英语教学的关系出发,进而分析中学生英语学习的情感态度的现状,然后根据中学生的心理特点提出中学生英语学习的情感态度培养的策略,如激发学生的学习兴趣和动机,帮助学生建立学习自信心,建立良好的师生关系等等。本文旨在探析中学英语教学中学生情感态度的培养,帮助中学生建立正确的英语学习的情感态度。

Abstract:In the English teaching, teachers widely develop emotional attitude education. It is good for the students to explore the knowledge, improve skills, and form a healthy and positive attitude. This paper adopting the documentation method, firstly describes the relationship between emotional attitude and English teaching. Then it analyzes the current situation of middle school students’ emotional attitude in English learning, and finally puts forward some strategies to cultivate students’ emotional attitudes according to emotional characteristics of middle school students. This paper aims to explore the cultivation of students’ emotional attitudes in middle school English teaching, and help the students establish the correct attitudes towards English learning.

On the Cultivation of Students’ Emotional Attitude in Middle School English Teaching
I. Introduction
Since the reform and opening up, China’s economy and society has developed rapidly. English, as a global language, has been becoming more and more important. It also requires the Chinese people to master English. To meet this requirement, the teaching of English has become an essential part in the education system. Traditional language teaching puts emphasis on learning the system of scientific knowledge, but despises the culture emotional attitudes and values; dilute the scientific learning process and students’ personality development. But the full-time compulsory English curriculum standard of 2001 version (trail version) clearly states, “The overall objective of basic education English courses is to develop students’ comprehensive ability to use language. Comprehensive ability to use language is based on some literacy overall development, such as the students’ language skills, language knowledge, emotional attitudes, learning strategies and cultural awareness etc” ( Jiang 8).
Emotion is a function of the human brain, which is people’s attitude of objective things and their corresponding behavioral response. Based on the characteristics of English subject, carrying out emotional attitude education in English teaching lays a solid foundation for students to become qualified citizens with a certain scientific literacy level while they seek knowledge and improve skills(Arnold 65). Psychology research shows that positive emotions in English learning will produce direct or indirect influence on students. Such as, an optimistic and lively personality will help students take an active part in language learning activities, gain more learning opportunities. Strong learning motivation, strong study interest and the spirit of bold practice will help students to enhance learning effect. A strong self-confidence helps students overcome some difficulties in the study. In contrast, negative emotions hinder the development of student’ potential, such as they will fear to communicate with classmates, exam over anxiety. The positive feelings will enhanced learning motive power and promote teachers and students to participate in the harmonious atmosphere. We should help students to overcome the negative emotion of learning, in the process of teaching.
