II. The Origin of Western Vampire Diaries

2.1 Vampire Legend

The earliest image of vampire is hard to be described accurately, but in general, there are two points. On the one hand, the legend of Lilith and Cain’s first vampire legend originate from Dead Sea Scrolls which is mentioned in the oldest Hebrew. According to the legend, Lilith was Adam’s first wife, leaving him to seek power. Later, Adam and his second wife, Eve, had two children Abel and Cain. Cain killed Able for the reason that he was jealous of God’s love. Then God expelled him into the dark wilderness, where he met Lilith. Having shared the blood of Lilith, Cain gained the forces hidden in the dark. In the end, he returned to the world to set up his own city, and other vampires were created. Therefore, Cain was considered to be the ancestor of vampires. On the other hand, according to The Bible, Judas, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, betrayed Jesus and led Jesus to be crucified on the cross. As a result, God turned Judah into a vampire after his death. Judah could not see the sun, only wandering in darkness, lonely forever. Once models with multiple equilibrium are considered, then historic events have permanent effects if they cause a movement from one equilibrium to another. Sometimes even without the existence of multiple equilibrium, historic events can still affect economic development in the long-run if they alter deep determinants of long-term economic growth.

As we can see, vampires are always connected with the birth of evil, which rooted in people’s minds. A vampire used to be born with hatred. But now, with the change of society, people are more and more enlightened and tolerant, so Vampire Diaries appears under such circumstance. In this drama, the Michaelson family moved to the town of Mystic Falls, United States from Europe, living in the neighborhood of the werewolf for 20 years in harmony. In a full moon night, Klaus took his youngest brother to see the transfiguration of the werewolf, as a heavy price, the werewolf took away his little brother’s life. In order to protect the health and longevity of family members, Klaus’s mother who was a witch used her strength to have family members become longevous and gain rare ability of vampire. Despite the bloodthirsty nature made them kill countless innocent people to meet their own needs brutally, however it was the instinct of motherhood that trying to protect her children.
