In addition, compliment is the expression of cultural tradition and value. This comparative study aims to discuss the characteristics of English and Chinese compliments by seeking the similarities and differences. Thus, it can broaden the people’s perspective, enable people to make an appropriate evaluation of both English culture and our own culture. Last but not the least, it is hoped that more successful communication can be achieved through the study in order to better guide our intercultural communication and practice.
